Seattle #5: Forbes' Best Cities For Jobs
Seattle's employment market keeps getting kudos from national sources, as the tech industry continues to bolster the region's job market. It's not just Microsoft anymore. Google, Facebook, eBay, Amazon, and many other tech companies are broadening their footprints in the greater Seattle market as we speak.
Forbes is projecting an annual job growth rate in the Seattle region of 1.9 percent. Wages, at the same time, are expected to grow by 2.6 percent through 2019. The area's strong education system is cited as one of the many reasons for optimism in the Seattle job market. Strong employment has certainly contributed to Seattle's stronger real estate market as well.
The unemployment rate, at 6.5 percent was a bit higher than many of the other cities listed in Forbes' Top 10, but it was made up for by wages, with a per capita income of $50,497. Cities in Texas took up the top four spots in Forbes' list, with the low unemployment and low taxes making the state a magnet for businesses and employees.
