Craftsman-Style Houses For Sale in Seattle

Craftsman homes are found throughout the city of Seattle.  Most were built in the 1920s and 1930s, and they're a well-loved style of house for Seattle residents who are drawn to the nostalgia of the city's early roots.  Most have been bought and sold a number of times, so the interior and exterior styles have often been altered significantly.

Craftsman homes are sometimes called bungalows, and incorporate elements of the Arts and Crafts style of architecture.  They're usually initially recognizable by their covered porches that jut out from the front of the home with heavy-set columns on the corners.

The craftsman house is heavy on wood millwork, with stacked moldings surrounding the door and window elements.  Hearkening back to a more lumber-intensive time in Seattle, skilled woodworking is evident throughout the home.  Main floors often have original narrow plank oak hardwoods, while upper floors and bedrooms often have a softer, wide plank fir floor.

Craftsman homes for sale in Seattle vary widely in price, based on neighborhood and condition.  There are still project craftsmen with the opportunity to renovate, while many craftsman homes have been updated to modern interiors, or restored to their original early 1900s style.
