Sister Cities since 1991
The Seattle- Pécs Sister City Association has hosted public officials, community leaders, and students since its founding in 1991. The Association hosts piano recitals by Hungarian composers, and hosts annual students exchanges from Pécs University. Seattle and Pécs have much in common: beautiful parks, gardens, museums, churches, fine universities, a thriving artistic community and more.
Pécs is three hours south of Budapest by train and has a population of 157,000. The Romanesque cathedral in Pécs is one of Hungary's most treasured architectural monuments. Pécs is famous for the Zsolnay porcelain works, wine and beer production, wood products, and energy production and electronics assembly. Fine arts are a high priority in Pécs, which has an internationally known ballet, symphony, opera, theatre companies and museums. Pécs University was founded in 1367 and is the fifth oldest in Europe.
